The joint promotion of a multi-polar world order is an important area of interaction between China and Russia, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said before his visit to Russia.
"Multi-polarity is a main global trend. Our countries share an opinion that the formation of a just and rational multi-polar world order will meet the interests of lasting peace and stability on Earth. At the same time, the multi-polar world order gives more space to development of all countries and offers them a broader chance," he said in an interview with Interfax.
"China and Russia have been closely interacting in international and regional problems and working together to promote the idea of multi-polarity for years," the minister said.
"Together with Russia, we are seeking to connect with leading nations and develop equal and stable cooperation; we are pooling efforts to achieve a higher place and role in global affairs for a broad range of developing countries and emerging markets," Wang said.
He thinks it is necessary to increase the role and authority of the United Nations in global affairs and to reform this universal organization.
"We want the United Nations to bear main responsibility for global peace and security. We want the UN to play a central role in global affairs and international relations to be democratized," he said.
"As to the UN reform, China and Russia think it is necessary to give the vote and decision-making rights at the United Nations to a broader range of developing states, for instance, small and medium-sized countries," the minister said.
In his words, China and Russia are interacting with countries of Africa, Asia Pacific region and Latin America, and have successfully established relations with regional organizations launched by developing states.
"China and Russia are also contributing to the sustainable development of the SCO, BRICS and other new mechanisms supporting the formation of a multi-polar world order," the minister stated.
