Iran is urging Russia, China, and India to stand shoulder to shoulder against NATO’s eastward expansion and the alliance’s creation of a missile defense system in Europe.
This statement was made by Hossein Dehghan, Minister of Defense and Armed Forces of Iran, at the Fourth Moscow Conference on International Security.
The minister said that his country was ready “to cooperate with China, Russia, and India to counter NATO’s eastward expansion, deployment of a missile shield in Europe, and the major concentration of US forces to the south and east of China”.
“My country and I are ready to participate in consultations in the field of cooperation (on these issues),” said Mr. Dehghan.
At the same time, he noted that the defense ministers of Russia, China, and Iran might hold a trilateral meeting in the future.
“We discussed some aspects of regional security. It was proposed to hold a trilateral meeting between Russia, Iran, and China,” he said.
This was the fourth time that a conference on international security was held in Moscow, organized by the Russian military. The main theme of the forum was “Global Security: Challenges and Prospects”. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, participating in the conference are representatives of more than 70 countries, including more than a dozen ministers of defense, as well as delegates from six international organizations.
