AEC to boost Russia-Malaysia trade: Russian Ambassador

Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Valery Yermolov believes many new opportunities will open up when the ASEAN Economic Community is established

Trade between Russia and Malaysia will get a boost when the ASEAN Economic Community  (AEC) becomes established at the end of 2015, Valery Yermolov, Russia’s Ambassador to Malaysia told The Star.

The AEC, which will be under Malaysian chairmanship, will offer more possibilities for new projects for Russia and ASEAN countries, Yermolov told the paper.  Prominent Russian businessmen would visit Malaysia at the end of August to explore opportunities in information technology and defence, the ambassador was cited as saying by the paper.

Alexey Ulyukhaev, the Russian Minister of Economic Development is expected to head the delegation of 30 to 40 officials, according to the report.

The Russia-ASEAN Business Council has big plans, Yermolov said.  “The council wants to develop practical ties with Malaysia and I will do everything I can to enhance our trade relationship that reached $3.3 billion last year, a 22 per cent growth, which we are very satisfied with,” the paper quoted Yermolov as saying.
