The grandson of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Nicholas Soames, will be representing the United Kingdom at the festivities on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in WWII in Moscow on May 9.

"The Prime Minister has asked The Right Honorable Sir Nicholas Soames to represent Her Majesty's Government at the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Moscow on 9 May. The commemorations mark the joint struggle of our two countries against Nazism and the sacrifice of our brave soldiers and civilians who lost their lives fighting for our freedom," a UK Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Interfax on Friday.

"As grandson of Britain's wartime Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Nicholas has a unique link to the Second World War alliance between Britain and Russia," the spokesperson said.
