Humanitarian crisis in Ukraine "surpasses in scale everything that Europe has seen over the last years and even decades," Russian Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner on Human Rights, Democracy and Supremacy of Law Konstanton Dolgov said on Thursday.
Dolgov reminded that UN estimates the number of internally displaced people in Ukraine to stand at around 1.2 million. "We think that we should continue helping Ukrainian residents, including in the framework of international organizations, firstly the residents of south-east [of Ukraine]," the diplomat told Russian Federation Council’s Committee of public support to residents of south-eastern Ukraine.
International humanitarian aid is not distributed equally among troubled regions in the world, Dolgov said. However, "with the help of the Russian Foreign Ministry, we managed to break through informational blockade to UNHCR [United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees] on issues of Ukrainian refugees and internally displaced persons," he noted.
