Moscow doubts that the detention center Guantanamo on Cuba will be closed under the Obama administration.
"The illusion that the Guantanamo prison will be closed during the presidency of Barack Obama, as he promised, is apparently decreasing," Russian Foreign Ministry envoy on human rights, democracy and supremacy of law Konstantin Dolgov said on Twitter on Thursday.
The Russian diplomat said "European parliamentarians have presented a report on their visit to the special U.S. prison in Guantanamo and stated that human rights violations continue there."
"European parliamentarians believe the U.S. special detention facility in Guantanamo has turned into a symbol of Islamic radical resistance, inspiring them to carry out new terrorist acts," Dolgov said.
