A Lithuanian intelligence officer has been caught red-handed at the moment he was receiving secret information, the Russian Federal Security Service has reported.

"A Lithuanian citizen, an official with the illegal intelligence of the Republic of Lithuania, was detained in Moscow by Russian Federal Security Service officers on May 19. The foreign spy was caught red-handed whilst receiving secret documents from a Russian citizen," the Russian Federal Security Service public relations center told Interfax on Wednesday.

The Lithuanian spy is currently in the Lefortovo detention facility.

Necessary investigative actions are being conducted, the Russian Federal Security Service said.

"The foreigner was taken to the Russian Federal Security Service reception office for questioning. After evidence was presented, he confessed that he is an officer with the Second Investigation Department under the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense ," the Russian Federal Security Service public relations center said.
