Russia's first own payment card has received a name - Mir (World), it was announced on May 23.

Russia's first own payment card has received a name - Mir (World), it was announced on May 23.

The name was selected through an online competition whose results were posted on Saturday on the website of National Payment Card System (NSPK), a company controlled by the Russian central bank.

The Mir name with a logo picturing the globe had been designed by a user from Udmurtia. The second-best result was the name Sokol (Falcon) with a logo showing a flying falcon. It was suggested by a user from Samara region.

The Mir author will be awarded 150,000 rubles and the Sokol designed 50,000 rubles at a ceremony on May 28, NSPK said on its website.

The competition, organized by NSPK and central bank, was open to anyone to take part. Participation applications were accepted before April 30.

Earlier, NSPK had announced it planned to start making the cards in December 2015.
