A serviceman from the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia was found dead on June 15 morning, Soza Truzyan, press officer for the Armenian Investigative Committee, told Interfax.
"The body of serviceman Ivan Novikov was found in the territory of the city of Gyumri near the monument Mother Armenia. Stab wounds were found on the man's body," Truzyan said.
Truzyan said a murder case has been opened and an investigation is underway.
The Avetisyan family (seven people, including three young children) were killed in Gyumri on January 12. Russian serviceman Valery Permyakov, a serviceman with the Russian military base in Armenia, has been charged with the murder. Criminal cases have been opened in Armenia and in Russia. Armenia and Russia are conducting a joint investigation.
