McCain promises Republican pressure on Senate for U.S. arms deliveries to Ukraine

U.S. Republican Senator John McCain has said that the supply of U.S. defensive weapons to Ukraine is needed to stop the Russian aggression from getting further into Ukraine's east.

"Right now the weapons are a critical issue in preventing Vladimir Putin from further encroachment in eastern Ukraine," he said at a briefing in Kiev on June 20.

In his opinion, Ukraine is now fighting with 20th century weapons against 21st century weapons.

McCain said the Senate is advocating the need for providing defensive weapons to Ukraine but the decision is up for U.S. President Barack Obama and administration to make.

He stressed that Republican Senators would continue pressing for a decision on the supply of defensive weapons to Ukraine.

The Russian political leadership and the Defense Ministry have denied on numerous occasions Russian military presence in Donbass.
