U.S. to continue helping Ukrainian military with training, hardware - U.S. Ambassador

The U.S. will continue to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine until the Russian aggressor leaves Ukrainian territory, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt has said.

The U.S. will continue helping the Ukrainian Armed Forces to develop its capabilities to defend the country's sovereign territory. The U.S. is doing this by helping the Ukrainian military retrain, giving it defensive military hardware, and via the diplomatic efforts of the U.S. and its European partners, Pyatt told journalists in Kyiv on Monday after opening an office of the socio-psychological help center for the families of refugees from the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone.

The Ambassador said that the end goal was to stop the horrific war and let people return home.

Pyatt said diplomatic efforts were being applied to make Russia realize its obligations under the Minsk agreements and stop supplying weapons and sending militants to Ukraine.

When commenting on the resolution of the U.S. Congress to give Ukraine lethal weapons, Pyatt said the decision signaled support for efforts to help Ukraine, as well as being a demonstration of unity with Ukraine by two American political parties.
