Kazakhstan ratifies protocol to Baikonur Baiterek agreement with Russia

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed into law the instrument of ratification of the protocol to the agreement with Russia on the Baikonur Baiterek project, the presidential press service has said.

"The chief of state has signed the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan On Ratification of the Protocol Adjusting the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Russian Federation on Building the Baiterek Space Rocket Complex at the Baikonur Spaceport dated December 22, 2004," the press service said in a report released on Tuesday.

As reported earlier, the document extended until 2019 the preference period for principal and interest repayment on a budget loan supporting the Baiterek project through adjustment of the agreement.

The extended preference period in repayment of the budget loan granted to Kazakh-Russian joint venture Baiterek for implementing the project will enable further work on the creation and joint use of the Baiterek space rocket complex incorporating ground infrastructures of the Baikonur spaceport in commercial space programs and national space programs of Kazakhstan and Russia and finance the project with the outstanding loan.
