The 4th Guards Kantemirovskaya Tank Division (usually known as just the Kantemirovskaya Division) is one of the key formations of the Western Military District.
The division is based in the town of Naro-Fominsk in the Moscow Region.
Kantemirovskaya is always on standby mode for combat. Most of its equipment and manpower are on alert all the time.
In 1993, during the constitutional crisis in Russia, the Kantemirovskaya Division gave reluctant support to Boris Yeltsin at a decisive point.
The division also took part in the First Chechen War (1994-96).
