The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry is looking into the arrival of Russian businessman German Sterligov in the self-proclaimed Republic of Nagorno Karabakh.

"The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry is inquiring the illegal stay of Russian billionaire German Sterligov and his family on the Azerbaijani territories occupied by Armenia," the country's Foreign Ministry said.

Sterligov has made an illegal visit to "the occupied territories," having violated the Azerbaijani state border law, the ministry said.

"Following an investigation, this person will be listed as persona non grata," the ministry said.

After fleeing Russia, Sterligov has arrived in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic as a tourist, local authorities confirmed in Stepanakert, the main city of Nagorno Karabakh.

"Sterligov is staying in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. He was registered as a tourist in the consular department of Nagorno Karabakh's Foreign Ministry," spokesperson of the Nagorno Karabakh Foreign Ministry Ani Sarkisian told Interfax on July 7.

He arrived in Karabakh on July 4, the businessman's aide Polina Sirota said. "It is unclear when he will come back, but he certainly will do. Serious circumstances forced him to flee the country. This is not bandits, this is a higher level," she said.
