Philippines targets increased trade with Russia

The Philippines is looking to increase bilateral trade with Russia and fill the void left in the Russian market by the sanctions that Moscow imposed on Western countries, the Philippines News Agency reported on Monday.

Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) president Alfredo M. Yao told the news agency that a Filipino trade delegation will visit Moscow in September

“Because of the U.S. sanctions on Russia, they now want to deal with Asia,” Yao told the news agency. “There’s an opportunity for us to increase our exports to Russia

According to the report that was carried by the Interaksyon website top Philippine exports to Russia include desiccated coconut, lighters, personal care products, and banana chips.

Bilateral trade between Russia and the Philippines in 2014 was around $900 million.
