Slovenia will continue to support economic sanctions regarding Russia despite the decline in trade turnover, Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec said in Kyiv on Tuesday at a joint briefing with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin.

As to restrictive measures regarding Russia, Slovenia supports them all and sanctions will last until real changes and significant results on site come and until peaceful dialogue is held on all issues, Erjavec said.

Sanctions regarding Russia are effective, the Slovenian minister said.

Unfortunately, our trade turnover fell 24 percent during the Ukrainian crisis but if to speak honestly, it was surprising because a considerably bigger drop was expected, Erjavec said. Trade turnover between Slovenia and Russia went down 40 percent and this shows in particular that economic sanctions are effective and work in reality," he said.
