Fines for parents of teenagers taking dangerous selfie photographs have been called for by Russian politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
The Liberal Democratic Party leader wants the State Duma, lower house of parliament, "to discuss the problem of teenagers’ passion for making photographs of themselves in dangerous circumstances", a party statement said on Thursday.
"One measure against the new kind of teenage extremism may be introducing heavy administrative fines for parents of youngsters caught trying to reach dangerous objects or creating artificial life-threatening situations," the politician said.
Reflecting concern over increasing numbers of deaths, Russia’s Interior Ministry issued guidelines earlier this month warning of the dangers in taking adventurous selfies.
