The Russian authorities did not limit the forms of destruction of the embargoed products, permitting all available methods of doing it.

"Embargoed products are destroyed using available methods in compliance with the compulsory requirements envisaged by the legislation on environmental production on the basis of the act on the destruction of embargoed products," the Rules Governing the Destruction of Agricultural Products, Materials and Food Included in the List of Agricultural Products, Materials and Food Originating from the U.S., EU Countries, Canada, Australia and Norway and Whose Shipment to Russia Is Banned until August 5, 2016 (Inclusive) say.

The Rules were adopted by a Decree of the Russian Government issued on July 31.

The decree said that such banned products are to be destroyed immediately after the respective act has been drawn up in the presence of "at least two persons with no interest in the matter", with mandatory photo, video recording or filming the destruction process, with indication of data and time of destruction.

It was earlier reported that a decision on destruction of any banned products would be within the powers of the Federal Customs Service, Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight (Rosselkhoznadzor) or Federal Service for Health and Consumer Rights (Rospotrebnadzor). The document also said that such a decision is to be taken regardless of whether it had been established who imported such products to Russiaor not.
