The Russian Pacific Fleet's Coast Guard successfully carried out a tactical drill near Cape Povorotny, which consisted of a live-fire exercise using the Bal missile system on decommissioned sea-going vessels as its simulated target, Interfax reports.
The exercise consisted of tracking down the simulated target and determining its parameters. “The personnel accomplished this task successfully, Eastern Military District spokesman Col. Alexander Gordeyev told Interfax. “The target was destroyed at a distance of more than 50 km from the shore. The unit received an 'excellent' mark.”
In the recent months, the region has witnessed an increase in naval exercises and joint military exercises between Russia and China. Earlier in the year, both countries had conducted a reconnaissance mission in the Sea of Japan, according to Sputnik News.
The trend is expected to continue with both countries agreeing to similar exercises using two dozen warships in late August, according to International Business Times.
