Russia is capable of contributing a great deal to the stabilization of the situation in the Mediterranean, the Holy See’s foreign minister, Secretary for Relations with States English Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher has said.

Russia plays an obviously important role in the international scene, so it is worth walking in step together, and not separately in the joint determination to better the current world, Archbishop Gallagher believes. Russia might assist stabilization in the Mediterranean, the way it contributed to the achievement of the recent agreement over the Iranian nuclear problem, Archbishop Gallagher told the daily La Stampa.

He spoke highly of the potentially positive role the agreement with Iran might play for a settlement in the Middle East.

The Holy See welcomes the agreement over Tehran’s nuclear problem, because it considers dialogues and talks as the sole way to peace, Archbishop Gallagher said.
