Almost nine tonnes of cheese detained by border guards has been destroyed with a roller on the test area Ekotrans near Belgorod, Svetlana Zaporozhechenko, spokeswoman for the regional division of Rosselkhoznadzor, told Interfax on Aug.6.

"This cheese was detained near the Ukrainian border in late July. There were no labels on the products and its origin is unknown. It is quite possible that the cheese was manufactured in one of the countries affected by the sanctions," Zaporozhechenko said.

For this reason, the cheese fell under the decree on the destruction of embargoed products in Russia.

"The destruction has been completed. The destroyed products will be buried," Zaporozhechenko said.

Products arriving from the EU on false certificates are subject to destruction under a decree issued by the Russian president on July 29, 2015.
