Military equipment and reconstructions of WWII battles will be demonstrated before the start of Masters of Air Defense Battle-2015 contest within the Army Games 2015, the press service and information department of the Russian defense ministry told reporters on Aug. 7.
The ministry's press service said that in the run-up to the Masters of Air Defense Battle-2015 contest, at the competition's opening ceremony, participants from Russia, China, Pakistan, Venezuela, Belarus and Egypt will be witnessing "a dynamic show of Russian weaponry and military equipment, with elements of some WWII historic reconstruction."
"The crews will demonstrate their mastery in eliminating various air targets, including moving ones, in the course of a tactical air defense battle. Live-fire exercises will be carried out using Igla Man-Portable Air Defense [MANPAD] systems, Tunguska self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon systems, as well as 23mm ZU-23 anti-aircraft guns. In order to complete the firing tasks, 500 rounds will be used," the defense ministry said.
In addition to this, in the course of the static show, the teams participating in the competitions will be able to familiarize themselves with modern types of weapons of the air defense forces of the Russian Army, as well as with historical types of Russian combat equipment and weaponry.
"Servicemen representing the nations that participate in the competitions will be shown the SA-11 Osa, the SA-8 mobile air defense missile system, the Tor-MU antiaircraft missile system, the ZSU-23-4 Shilka self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, and the Strela-10 anti-aircraft system," the defense ministry said.
The ministry said that the historic equipment and weapons would include the following items: one 122mm field howitzer dated back to 1910, one double-barreled ZPU-2 14.5mm antiaircraft gun dated 1949, and one 37mm 61-K automatic anti-aircraft gun dated 1939. "In total, during dynamic and static shows, almost 30 items of combat equipment and weaponry will be used," the ministry said.
