Source: Caucasus Emirate leader killed in Dagestan

According to preliminary information, one of the four militants killed in a counterterrorist operation in Dagestan has been indentified as Caucasus Emirate leader Magomed Suleimanov, a source with the Dagestan law enforcement agencies told Interfax.

"According to preliminary data, four militants were killed, including Suleimanov. The special operation has continued," the source said.

Interfax has yet to obtain official confirmation of the report.

One of the Dagestani websites covering law enforcement issues has already published photographs of the killed militants.

The counterterrorist operation started in the Untsukul district of the Russian internal republic of Dagestan at 5.30 a.m. on August 10 after a group of militants had been spotted in the area. Artillery and air strikes were launched at the militants' position. Later an exchange of fire between law enforcement officers and the militants took place.
