Russia’s Tikhomirov R&D institute of instrument-making, which is part of Almaz-Antey defense manufacturer, is developing a new-generation air defense missile system as a follow-up to the Buk antiaircraft complexes, Institute Chief Yuri Bely said on Wednesday.
"The management of Almaz-Antey Group has set the task of working out proposals on further developing the Buk antiaircraft missile systems. We’ll prepare and submit these proposals jointly with the Group to the Defense Ministry," he said.
"Without waiting for a final decision and with the Group’s full support, the institute has already launched work now to develop promising technical solutions," Bely said.
The ground forces’ air defense systems should be developed further in the wake of the intensive development of aerospace attack means, he said.
