6 killed in helicopter crash in Khabarovsk territory - source

A Mi-8 helicopter that went missing in the Khabarovsk territory some time ago fell into the sea, and its captain contacted rescue teams to report six fatalities, a source with local emergency services told Interfax on Saturday.

"The helicopter's captain went on the air to report that six people were killed and ten others survived the crash. Preliminarily, they fell into the sea," the source said.

The ten survivors managed to get to the shore on their own, he added.

A local law enforcement source told Interfax that the Mi-8 helicopter carrying 13 passengers to the Shantar Islands, which did not go on the air at a stated time, belonged to the Vostok airline.

"The missing helicopter belongs to the Vostok airline. The flight was arranged under a private contract," the source said.
