Russian ensemble wins main prize at Borneo folklore festival

The ensemble won the Overall Champion Prime Award at the 10th Sabah International Folklore Festival.

An ensemble from Russia won the main prize at the 10th Sabah International Folklore Festival in Malaysian Borneo on August 16.

The ensemble, which performed Russian wedding folk dances, won the Overall Champion Prime Award, according to the Borneo Post. The second prize went to an ensemble from the Philippines, according to the report.

16 teams took part in the festival, including a team from the Russian internal republic of Yakutia. The teams displayed folk weddings as well as folk dances.

The team from Yakutia won the Jury Award, while the Best Male Dancer and Best Female Dancer awards went to Russia’s Denis Samoylov and Ekaterina Borovnik respectively, according to the Borneo Post.
