Russia destroys 606 tons of embargoed food since August 6

As of August 20, 595 tons of contraband fruit and vegetables have been seized in Russia and 555 tons of that amount have been destroyed, Rosselkhoznadzor said on August 21.

In addition, 51 out of 307 tons of seized contraband animal products have been destroyed.

Rosselkhoznadzor said in a report on August 19 that 592 tons of embargoed fruit and vegetables, and 304 tons of embargoed animal products have been seized in Russia since August 6.

Attempts to smuggle embargoed food into Russia are ongoing yet their scope has reduced.

The embargo has been imposed on food from the United States, the European Union, Australia, Norway and Canada. The list was expanded on August 3 to include Albania, Montenegro, Iceland and Liechtenstein which joined the anti-Russian sanctions, and, on special terms, Ukraine.
