A group of Russian observers will inspect training areas of the German Armed Forces on August 24-26 and receive reports on the country's current military activities, the head of the National Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, Sergei Ryzhkov, told Interfax-AVN on August 24.

"A Russian group of inspectors is planning to inspect this part of the German territory under the 2011 Vienna Document on confidence- and security-building measures of August 24-26," Ryzhkov said.

The inspection aims to either determine the scale of any military activity conducted by the German Armed Forces in this said area, which should be reported, or to confirm that no such activity is being carried out. "The area will cover around 16,000 square kilometers," Ryzhkov said.

"During this event, Russian inspectors will visit training sites and be briefed by the command staff on their units, bases and current military activities in this area," he said.
