Russia Beyond The Headlines has now launched its weekly analytical podcast Troika Report in iTunes. The feature has been published every Thursday since April 2015 on SoundCloud and rbth.com, and there are now 21 episodes. In addition to the audio podcasts, there are text versions and 2-minute video promotions on rbth.com.
Troika Report features high-profile recent developments in international affairs related to Russia with comments by a wide range of Russian and foreign experts. Each podcast consists of three parts (hence ‘Troika’, which means “Trinity” in Russian): Engaging the West, Going Eastward and Globally Speaking. They are dedicated to Russia’s relations with the West, its turn, or pivot, to the East and global problems.
The program covers such themes as the conflict in south eastern Ukraine, joint efforts in the battle against ISIL, Russia turning to China, the effect of sanctions on Russian economy and politics, and many others.
“Our motto is ‘We help you understand what’s going on’. We don’t compete with the media outlets which merely report the news, we explain it”, says one of the hosts of the show, Sergey Strokan.
According to him, Troika Report doesn’t take part in the information wars and doesn’t try to create a distorted reality. “We analyze the one and only reality we have here”, says Strokan.
His co-host Vladimir Mikheev adds that Troika Report offers a free market of ideas, presented by a wide array of pundits with different ideological views. “Our readers and listeners are free to choose their side from the comments and opinions we provide them with”, says Mikheev.
As both authors say, the program is intended for an audience that is interested in interaction with Russia. “These people see Russia not as hostile to the West and an autocracy, but as an open-minded country which cannot be ignored due to its geopolitical position”, pointed out Sergey Strokan.
