The compensation of Paris for its decision not to deliver Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia is less than 1 billion euro, French government spokesperson Stephane Le Foll said on Aug.26.
It is less than 1 billion euro, he told reporters after a government meeting that highlighted the agreement with Russia cancelling the Mistral delivery.
The spokesman said France would compensate for Russia's expenditures and no extra payments would be made.
A similar sum was mentioned by French Finance Minister Michel Sapin earlier.
Le Foll did not say exactly how much France was due to pay Russia. He said the sum would be presented at parliament hearings of the draft agreement cancelling the delivery of the Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia. The French Parliament is expected to hear this document in September.
