U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Michael Ratney will visit Moscow on August 28 and have meetings at the Russian Foreign Ministry and Security Council.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to bring about a sustainable political solution to the Syrian conflict based on the Geneva principles, U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Ratney will meet August 28 in Moscow with senior Russian officials," spokesperson for the U.S. embassy to Russia William Stevens told Interfax on Aug.27.

"My understanding is that he will meet with Deputy Foreign Minister Bogdanov and other officials at the Russian Foreign Ministry and Security Council," Stevens said.

"His trip follows Secretary [of State John] Kerry's recent meetings with Russian Foreign Minister [Sergei] Lavrov and Saudi Foreign Minister al-Jubeir in Doha and Kuala Lumpur, and reaffirms the United States' strong commitment to working with the international community to help Syrians lay the foundation for a free, democratic, and pluralistic future," he said.
