The intelligence units and systems of the Russian Navy are following the Sea Breeze 2015 multinational naval exercise involving the United States and Ukrainian ships, which began in the Black Sea on Aug.31, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax.
"The exercise will be followed by the intelligence aviation of the Black Sea Fleet, as well as radio-technical intelligence systems," the source said.
"As soon as the USS Donald Cook guided missile destroyer appeared in the Black Sea, it was escorted by the Black Sea Fleet frigate Ladny," he said.
The Sea Breeze 2015 exercise, which is taking place near Odesa, involves eleven nations: Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Moldova, Romania, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, the U.S. and the United Kingdom. The maneuvers are expected to focus on practicing shore-isolation, anti-submarine, air defense, asymmetric warfare and sea rescue operations.
The U.S. Navy is represented in the exercise by USS Donald Cook, a P-3C Orion patrol aircraft and a total of around 400 personnel.
The Sea Breeze exercise is due to end on September 12. It is held for the 14th time this year.
