Savchenko's, Sentsov's possible swap for Russians detained in Donbass within Foreign Ministry jurisdiction

A decision on Ukrainian aviator Nadiya Savchenko's and director Oleh Sentsov's possible swap for Russian citizens detained in Donbas should be made through diplomatic channels, says Russian Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov.

A decision on Ukrainian aviator Nadiya Savchenko's and director Oleh Sentsov's possible swap for Russian citizens detained in Donbass should be made through diplomatic channels, says Russian Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov.

"Such an opportunity exists on different grounds, both on the grounds of the existing bilateral and convention agreements, and through diplomatic channels. As a rule, such issues are resolved through diplomatic channels," Konovalov said in reply to a question from Interfax on Sept.2.

Asked whether such a swap is possible, considering that the Ukrainian citizens in question have been charged with committing crimes, Konovalov said, "In this case, a decision on transferring an individual sentenced to this or that punishment could be made based on the existing general legal grounds."

Media reported earlier that Savchenko might be swapped for Russian citizens Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov captured in Ukraine.
