A reason for the migrant crisis in Europe is that Europe is following the U.S. policy that thrusts its standards on other regions, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

"Europe is blindly following this policy within the framework of the so-called allied commitments and then it has to bear the burden on its own," he told reporters on Sept.4.

"I am surprised that certain American media outlets are criticizing Europe for what they call excessive cruelty as regards the migrants," the Russian leader said.

He added that the United States was not bearing the migration burden like Europe.

"And Europe is blindly following U.S. directives and is now bearing so serious a load," he said.
