During their telephone conversation Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Pentagon chief Ashton Carter have reaffirmed the need for coordinating bilateral and multilateral efforts to counter international terrorism, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Sept.18.
"During an hour-long conversation, the ministers discussed in detail the situation in the Middle East in general and the situation in Syria and Iraq in particular. The main focus was on the need to coordinate bilateral and multilateral efforts to counter international terrorism," Konashenkov said.
It was revealed in the course of the conversation that the parties' views are close or overlap on most of the issues, he said.
"The ministers acknowledged the restoration of contacts between the two countries' defense agencies and agreed to continue consultations," Konashenkov said.
