Egypt may get Russian equipment for Mistral warships — Defense Ministry

Russian specialists in France have already started dismantling the equipment.

Egypt, a potential buyer of the Mistral warships that France originally built for Russia, could get the Russian equipment from these warships, Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov told reporters on Thursday.

"Our specialists are already in France and have started dismantling the equipment," he said. "Of course, all equipment will be used in the development of projects implemented in the Russian shipbuilding," he said.

"The future buyer may get back to this problem and bring up the issue of this equipment that it could use. As you know, Egypt is a potential buyer of these helicopter carriers," Borisov noted.

A Russian weaponry trading source has told TASS that Egypt has so far shown no interest in the Russian equipment installed on Mistral ships.
