France may exercise delivery of the Mistral-type helicopter carriers to Egypt by March 2016, a source in the Direction des Constructions Navales (DCNS), France's state-owned military shipbuilder told Interfax.

DCNS was the firm responsible for construction of the helicopter carriers planned for delivery to Russia.

When asked a question about probable terms of delivery and headlines established for the disassembly of the Russian equipment installed on the ships, the source said: "The disassembly is likely to be completed by the end of December."

"Reports that the contractual term is the end of March must be interpreted so that by then, the ships will be delivered to Egypt," he said.

It was reported earlier on Sept.23 that Egypt purchases two Mistral-type helicopter carriers from France. Prior to that, Paris had refused to effectuate delivery of these ships to Russia.

France's president Francois Hollande told reporters in Brussels that he had discussed the sale of the ships with his Egyptian counterpart for several weeks.
