Russian President Vladimir Putin has set for the nuclear industry the task of strengthening Russia's positions on global markets and actively participating in the implementation of international projects, including those involving space.

"Today it is necessary to consistently step up fundamental scientific research, work on the heightening of reliability and security of nuclear sites, actively participate in the implementation of space programs, promising international projects, build up Russia's positions on global markets, amid global competition," the president said in a congratulatory telegram to the workers of the nuclear industry on the occasion of their professional holiday.

Putin noted that thanks to the nuclear industry, which marks its 70th anniversary this year,"nuclear parity and state defense capability were ensured, nuclear power engineering was created, unique opportunities opened up for the exploration of the Arctic region, the strongest impetus was given to fundamental and applied science."
