Kiev welcomes statement by DNR and LNR leaders on postponement of elections

Ukraine welcomes the statement made by the administrations of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions that the elections earlier scheduled for Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 have been postponed, Daria Olifer, the spokesperson for Ukraine's second president and Kiev's representative at the Contact Group, Leonid Kuchma, has said.

"Meanwhile, in order to return certain areas of the Donetsk region and the Luhansk region into the legal field, it is important to point out the necessity to overturn the results of the election held on Nov. 2, 2014 as the election was never recognized either by the international community, or by Kiev, or even by Moscow," she wrote on her Facebook account on Oct.6.

This move makes it possible to hold fair, lawful and honest elections in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions under the electoral laws of Ukraine and according to OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) standards, which is fully consistent with the Minsk Agreements and other agreements reached by the leaders of the Normandy Four countries in Paris on Oct. 2.
