Russia may discuss Savchenko handover to Ukraine

Russia may discuss the issue of Ukrainian citizen Nadiya Savchenko's handover to Ukraine to serve punishment on the Ukrainian territory after the sentence is handed out, Russian Justice Minister Alexander Konovalov said.

"There is a universal principle of the trilateral accord: the handing side, the receiving side and the convict. If Savchenko is convicted, the issue will be discussed. But I am not speaking in specific, factual terms, I don't know if she will be convicted," Konovalov told reporters in Yalta, responding to a question from Interfax.

"From the point of view of jurisprudence, yes, it can [happen], if this decision fits the existing bilateral agreements and formats," the minister said, responding to a question from Interfax about the possibility of Savchenko's handover to Ukraine.
