Demands of Assad’s resignation in tune with terrorists’ logic — Russian Foreign Ministry

In the past, the world community did not urge to agree to their demands with regard to combating terrorism, it spoke with one voice, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson says.

The demands for the resignation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad are in line with terrorists’ logic, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Maria Zakharova told a press briefing on Wednesday.

"The requirement of the resignation [of Syrian President Bashar] al-Assad is the direct implementation of terrorists' logic," she said. "In the past, the world community did not urge to agree to their demands with regard to combating terrorism, it spoke with one voice."

The National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces is unable to confirm the status of the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people, Maria Zakharova went on to say.

"We note that the Syrian National Coalition based in Istanbul, which has declared a boycott to efforts of UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura is losing its weight and influence day by day," she noted. "There is a clear failure of the Istanbul-based opposition to confirm the status of the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people carefully maintained by it."
