Ford Sollers plant in Russia’s Naberezhnye Chelny city produced the first vehicle equipped with a Russian engine made at the new motor works in Elabuga, Ford Sollers VP for public relations Elizaveta Novikova told TASS on Thursday. Investments into the project totaled $275 mln.
"A new Ford Fiesta, the most affordable Ford car in Russia, became the first Ford car with a Russian engine. Vehicles with Russian engines will be available for orders by the end of this year or the beginning of the next year," Novikova said.
The motor works in Elabuga was officially launched early in September 2015. The plant will initially produce 105,000 engines a year with the capacity to grow to 200,000 later. The plant will produce 1.6 l capacity engines intended for more than 30% of Ford cars manufactured in Russia, including Fiesta, Focus and EcoSport models.
Ford Sollers is the joint venture established on a parity basis by Ford Motor Company and Russia’s OAO Sollers. The company has three production sites in Russia.
