Russia's engagement in the anti-terrorism operation in Syria strictly complies with the law, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said on Saturday.
"We are working in Syria in a transparent manner and regularly provide objective information about the involved means and forces and outcomes of the delivered strikes. We are doing so on a daily basis," Antonov said at the sixth meeting of the Xiangshan Security Forum.
The Russian Defense Ministry is constantly coordinating its actions with the Syrian army, he continued. "Every strike we deliver is targeted, precise and aimed exclusively at ISIL infrastructures. We are not striking on any other military or civilian facilities, moreover populated areas or mosques, as it is regularly claimed by particular Western media outlets," the deputy minister said.
The Russian Defense Ministry has established interaction with countries of the region, he added. A joint information center was set up in Baghdad to this end for coordination between representatives of armed forces staffs of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Russia.
"We are interested in cooperation with all countries without exception. We have created a direct telephone line with Turkey. We have held consultations with Israel and we have stepped up contacts with Gulf countries. We are negotiating an agreement on security of flights in the Syrian airspace with American partners. Yet this is not enough. We are offering a much broader scope of interaction but Washington is not prepared for this as of yet," Antonov said.
