Uzbek President Islam Karimov said he is convinced that the Afghan security services are not ready to counter the organized actions by the Taliban and long-waited for peace can only be brought back to this country by political methods.
"The recent events in Kunduz near the border showed compete lack of coordination and lack of action by the government and, at the same time, organized active actions by the Taliban, as a result of which they took over the city in just several days," the Uzbek national media quoted Karimov as saying at a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council session in Kazakhstan.
According to Karimov, the current situation in the neighboring country, where a fratricidal war has been going on for over 35 years now, can be characterized as a slow conflict.
The Uzbek president emphasized that the regrouping of militant units from the south to the north and northeast of Afghanistan and the increasing tensions in the areas close to the border cause deep concerns and alarm.
