French Ambassador to Russia Jean-Maurice Ripert has been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry to explain a near miss between a French Air Force aircraft and the plane carrying State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.

"On October 19 French Ambassador in Moscow Jean-Maurice Ripert was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry to Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov to give explanations of this morning's dangerously close proximity between a French Air Force aircraft in the national airspace and the airliner carrying a Russian parliamentary delegation led by Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin en route to Geneva to attend the 133rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union," the ministry said on its website.

"Russia expressed its deep concerns to the ambassador over the incident," the statement reads.

"It stressed that such actions by Paris undermine the possibility of using France as a venue for multilateral meetings and negotiations," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
