The Russian Foreign Ministry has made an official representation to the Swiss Ambassador in Moscow following a near midair collision between an aircraft of the Swiss air forces and a Russian airliner en route to Geneva carrying Russia's State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin.

"A strong protest was made to the Swiss diplomat following the fact of an 'air-police' control of a Russian civil aircraft conducted by the Swiss Defense Ministry using military aviation, about which Russia had not been warned in advance," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary published on its official website on Oct. 20.

"The attempts made by certain Swiss officials to represent the incident as a standard inspection procedure or as the "escorting of the Russian aircraft in order to demonstrate hospitality" towards the leader of the lower house of the Russian parliament seem to be unpersuasive: such steps require advance consent in every instance," the commentary said.

"Having taken the regrets expressed by the Swiss side to notice, we call on Berne to exclude the possibility of similar risky incidents in future and not to cast doubt on the reputation of the country as a place of major international events," it said.
