Kremlin: Flights with Egypt to resume once due safety level established with Cairo

The decision to suspend flights with Egypt is due primarily to the need to ensure proper safety

Air communication with Egypt will be suspended until its safety is ensured in close cooperation with the Egyptian authorities, the Kremlin has said.

"It is necessary to explain that the Russian president meant a suspension of air communication with Egypt until a due level of safety of this air communication is established jointly with Egyptian partners," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

"We are now going to cooperate with the Egyptians to establish the necessary - considering all risks - level of safety for our air communication," he said.

"We are hoping for close cooperation," the presidential press secretary said.

The decision to suspend flights with Egypt is due primarily to the need to ensure proper safety for Russians, he said.

"This is about the safety of our citizens, the preventive measures," Peskov told reporters when asked how the decisions to suspend flights to Egypt would affect the travel industry.

The matter consists of ensuring the due level of safety for the Russians flying to and from Egypt, he said. "In this particular instance, this is exactly what the NAK [National Anti-Terrorist Committee] recommendation was about and agreed to by the head of state," Peskov said.
