Lavrov: We are not planning to visit Ankara in the near future

Russia is not refusing to maintain contacts with Turkey

Russian officials have no plans to visit Turkey or receive Turkish counterparts in the near future, although Russia is not refusing to maintain contacts with Turkey, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We so far don't have any plans to make visits to the Republic of Turkey or receive our Turkish counterparts here," Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Nov. 25.

"First of all, it is surely necessary not to calmly discuss everything on the sidelines of international meetings, but realize all aspects and all consequences of what happened" in relations between Russia and Turkey after the Turkish Air Force attacked a Russian aircraft, he said.

"We are not evading contacts, and my telephone conversation with the Turkish foreign minister today confirms this," he said.
