More than 160 modern fire-fighting vehicles will arrive for the Russian Armed Forces in 2016, Deputy Defense Minister, General of the Army Dmitry Bulgakov said on Saturday.
"Units and formations of military districts and fleets will receive 163 new modern fire-fighting vehicles capable of eliminating fires and fire outbreaks in populated areas, at industrial enterprises, in the countryside and at other facilities and serving as a means of delivering crews, fire-extinguishing and technical equipment and a stock of fire-fighting agents to the site of the fire," Bulgakov said.
The vehicles will include 71 fire-extinguishing tankers of various modifications based on the KamAZ truck and 89 fire-fighting aerodrome vehicles that can also be used for emergency and rescue work at airfield take-off and landing strips.
The Russian Armed Forces will also receive 93,000 fire extinguishers and other fire-fighting means, the deputy defense minister said.
"The Russian Defense Ministry has mapped out dozens of fire-fighting exercises for 2016 with the involvement of units from the Emergencies Ministry’s federal fire-fighting service. The fire protection and technical commissions of military units and formations will hold planned checks of the most fire-hazardous facilities," he added.
Special attention will be paid to the proper condition of electrical equipment, heat, air conditioning and ventilation systems, the sources of water supply for fire-fighting purposes, fire-extinguishing means and the systems for detecting and extinguishing fires, Bulgakov said.
