Economic relations between Russia and Italy, as well as international relations were discussed in a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, the Kremlin press service said on Friday.
"The sides have substantially discussed in a constructive manner a number of issues of Russian-Italian cooperation, including cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continuing the joint work in the interests of implementation of mutually profitable energy projects," the statement said.
"When sharing opinions on the topical issues of the international agenda the sides focused on the prospects of settling the conflict in Syria, as well as the situation, which is emerging in the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia. In this context the importance of the close coordination of efforts in fighting international terrorism was noted," the Kremlin press service said.
"Vladimir Putin and Matteo Renzi have also discussed the schedule of forthcoming bilateral contacts at different levels," it said.
The telephone conversation took place upon the Italian initiative, the press service of the Russian head of state said.
